Cycling Bac Ha Itinerary: The Perfect 5-Day Adventure
Day 1: Arrival in Hanoi – Transfer to Lao Cai
Dropped off the luggage at the hotel, we took a cyclo ride in the old-world beauty of Hanoi. We visited the Old Quarter, Hoan Kiem Lake (or Sword Lake), and enjoyed the treat at a local restaurant.
The tour guide – Mr. Dang took us to a sidewalk food stall and savored banh mi dipped in egg coffee. What an amazing (and somewhat weird) dish. But it tasted really good, indeed.
After that, it was time to pack up the luggage and get on the train to Lao Cai for tomorrow’s cycling in Vietnam journey.
Day 2 : Lao Cai – Muong Khuong – Cao Son – Coc Ly – Bac Ha Bike Tour
Our Bac Ha Vietnam biking tour started after we took a bus to Muong Khuong. The routes wound and turned among towering mountains so we could glimpse the surrounding landscape from afar.
After spending two hours on the bus, we started riding uphill on a lengthy mountain trail and gravel road to Lung Khau Nhin.
Although we occasionally faced a steep pass with a bad road and potholes, we were rewarded with enchanting views and breathtaking landscapes on both sides of the mountain.
After eating lunch, our group continued to the summit before descending the Coc Ly bridge. Following that, we transferred to Bac Ha.
Day 3: Bac Ha – Ta Van Chu – Can Cau Market Bicycle Trip
The weather was nice, and today we spent an hour mingling with the people and admiring the stunning surroundings while also getting to know them. After going about 20km, we got to Bac Ha, where we had lunch.
Before proceeding on a villager path via Ban Pho hamlet, we went to Ta Van Chu village for a homestay with a Flower Hmong.
Here, we got a chance to experience true daily living, enjoyed dinner by the fire, and the Flower Hmong hosts’ kindness made me feel warm.
Day 4: Can Cau Vietnam Cycling Tours to Bac Ha and Ban Lien
After breakfast, we bid the host farewell, left for Quan Than San village, and then rode down to Can Cau market, around 12 kilometers from Simacai. The market was bustling when we arrived on Saturday, and we had some typical regional dishes.
Twenty kilometers later, after gliding along the road and taking in the fresh air, we reached Bac Ha, where we had a picnic lunch. Afterward, we pressed onward to Ban Lien village, our homestay for the night.
Day 5: Ban Lien to Nam Khanh Cycle Tour – Nam Det – Tan Duong Section Vietnam by Bicycle
Top of today’s cycling tours in Vietnam itinerary was Bac Ha market – the largest, most colorful, and stunning market in Vietnam’s mountainous area. We spent two hours here and indulged in delicious regional specialties.
After that, we returned to the guesthouse to check out. Followed the path from Nam Det Village and then to Tan Duong Section, where we had a picnic lunch.
Rest of the day, we made a four-hour drive back to Hanoi on the new highway, marking the end of the biking tour.
