Cycling Mekong Delta

The journey will bring you to quaint villages, various orchards, lively floating markets, unique mangrove forests, and stunning sandy beaches of Phu Quoc island. The exciting itinerary is waiting for you.

Day 1. Explore My Tho – Tra Vinh Bicycle Tour

After having breakfast in our hotel in Hochiminh, we’ll leave the city and start the first day of our South Vietnam cycling journey. The ferry will transfer us across the Tien river, and the cycling point will be at My Tho – the gateway of the Mekong Delta. From there, we’ll head to the center of the Mekong rural areas.

The journey is a combination of biking and water transferring. You’ll cycle through small and narrow roads and capture the sugar cane fields, banana plantations, and the delta’s beautiful lush green scenery. Short transfers by ferries will bring you across the rivers. Feel free to enjoy the excellent waterscape around.

The road becomes a little struggling when you need to pass the gravel and dirt paths through local villages, water channels, and dense flora. Then, we’ll take the final ferry across the Co Chien river and reach Tra Vinh – the home of ethnic Khmer.

Stay overnight in Tra Vinh and prepare for your great itinerary to come on the next day.

Day 2. Discover Khmer culture in Tra Vinh – Can Tho Bike Tour

The endless rice paddy fields await you on your second day of the cycling Mekong Delta tour. It’s proof why Vietnam is the second rice exporting country after Thailand.

The next destination is traditional Khmer Villages. Their living style in Thatch houses will surprise you. Plus, our tour guide will explain more about their religious beliefs.

In the afternoon, the plan will be cycling through tropical fruit orchards such as oranges, longans, pomelos, etc., before a ferry transfer to Can Tho. We’ll take a rest in a hotel in the city.

Day 3. Can Tho Riding Day and Long Xuyen Biking Trip

We’ll have early breakfast, get on a boat to Cai Rang floating market, and cycle on a narrow paved road through a market along the river bank to go to Phong Dien.

There’s a lovely picture of the local life activities, such as tiny docks loading/ unloading rice, coconut shredders, and timber merchants. Immerse yourself and feel the atmosphere along the way.

You’ll keep on pedaling on the tiny road before reaching the highway back to have lunch in Can Tho. After that, the ride will continue on the small path to get to Long Xuyen. Take a ferry and a short transfer to your hotel.

Day 4. Long Xuyen – Chau Doc Cycle Tour

Day 4 of your cycling south Vietnam tour will begin with a short transfer to Tri Ton and ride on an undulated road heading to Chau Doc. The closer you reach the destination, the more mountains you will see.

When you see the Thot Not trees, it indicates that you’re closer to the border with Cambodia. People there have their own native language, and Vietnamese is their second one.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit Ba Chuc – a witness place of the massacre that the Polpot’s regime did to more than 3000 Vietnamese in 1978.

In Ba Chuc, depending on the condition of the road, travelers can choose to ride along the border or cycle back to Tri Ton. Then, you’ll take the country road to end your trip to Chau Doc.

Climb Sam mountain to admire the beautiful sunset if you’re not too tired. Have dinner and rest in the hotel.

Day 5 & 6. Chau Doc Biking Day and Ha Tien Cycling Tour

After breakfast, you’ll have an early morning ride to visit the Tra Su cajuput forest. The place is considered a bird sanctuary where you can find a lot of different types of birds, such as storks, peafowls, water cooks, cormorants, and egrets.

The boat rowing combined with trekking to explore the wetlands is a unique experience. After visiting the cajeput tree area, we’ll get on our vehicle on the way leading to Ba Chuc memorials and take a transfer to Ha Tien.

On the last day of your biking Mekong delta tour, you’ll have some free hours to take a rest or walk around Ha Tien. Then, you’ll go to the speed boat station to take a 90-minute-boat trip to get to Phu Quoc island. End your cycling tour and have a good time in Phu Quoc.
