7-Day Cycling Northeast Vietnam Tour
Day 1: Ha Noi – Bac Can – Na Pac – Ba Be
We left the hectic life of Ha Noi behind and transferred to Bac Can in the morning. We had a chance to admire the stunning natural scenery on the way. We had lunch there before starting our Vietnam mountain bike tour.
We cycled from Na Bac, passing through rustic villages to get to Ba Be Lake. We were immersed in the amazing natural scenery, sumptuous traditional foods, and the unique cultural identity of the ethnic minorities here. Then, we went to our accommodation and had dinner there.
Day 2: Ba Be – Bao Lac
We spent 1 hour in the morning boating to explore the beauty of Ba Be Lake. We visited small islands, unspoiled caves, and lakeside fishing villages, which were all enchanting.
After leaving Ba Be Lake, we started cycling to Cho Ra. We had lunch and explored the local cuisine there. After that, we kept ascending to Pia Hooc summit to experience the magnificent views from above. When we left this place, it was in the late afternoon. We quickly reached Bao Lac and had dinner there.
Day 3: Ba Be – Meo Vac
We spent a whole day cycling along the splendid Gam River. The fog still covered the vast and quiet mountains in the early morning. It was a unique scene on the Gam River, both beautiful and magical, but it also brought a sense of anxiety and fear inside our souls.
In the afternoon, we rode ascending to Meo Vac town near the Chinese border. This place had not only majestic but dangerous passes, picturesque valleys lying in the mist, and also a small town of Meo Vac that deeply reflected indigenous people’s peaceful life. We arrived at our hotel at around 4:30 p.m.
Day 4: Meo Vac – Dong Van
On the 4th day of our biking Northeast Vietnam tour, we started by getting up early and visiting the Meo Vac market. We enjoyed unique homegrown art performances, shopped for handmade souvenirs, and immersed ourselves in the festive atmosphere of the market.
We cycled to Ma Pi Leng pass, which was a challenging journey. But it was truly worthwhile. From the top of Ma Pi Leng, we admired majestic mountain scenery: one side is a steep cliff, while the other is the deep abyss of the emerald-green Nho Que River.
Day 5: Dong Van – Yen Minh
We commenced the day at 8:00 a.m. We visited many time-honored historical-cultural relics, such as the palace of the Hmong King, the Dong Van stone plateau, and villages of ethnic minorities with distinctive indigenous cultures. We kept biking to Sung La valley and then Pho Bang ancient town, to have lunch.
After that, we cycled downhill to Yen Minh. On the way, we passed through Pho Cao Mountain pass, which provided superb views of Yen Minh valley. When the sun sets over the lake, its orange light dazzlingly hits the mountains. We arrived at our hotel in the late afternoon.
Day 6: Yen Minh – Ha Giang
We had to ride the longest distance on the 6th day of this bike tour in Vietnam. We conquered two high mountain passes: Yen Minh and Quan Ba. The route was steep, with several abrupt turns, but it provided a spectacular view of the valley below. We took a tea break at the summit before descending to the alley along the Nho Que river.
We stopped by Nam Dam village before lunch. We planned to tackle Quan Ba Pass in the afternoon. Then we descended a steep hillside to the valley floor before continuing to Ha Giang. We settled into a hotel and went sightseeing in this wonderful city.
Day 7: Ha Giang – Ha Noi
Waking up after a night of tight sleep, we enjoyed our very last breakfast on this bike tour Vietnam. We also went around Ha Giang and observed the daily life of the local people there.
We returned to Ha Noi in the afternoon. After settling in the hotel, we went for a farewell dinner with our team. That marked the conclusion of our 7-day biking tour.
The Northeast region is favored by Mother Nature for its forest-mountain-river population and diverse ecosystems. This place always draws many backpackers and cyclists with majestic spots, like Quan Ba twin mountain, Ma Pi Leng pass, and Tu San gorge.
