Sapa Cycling Tour: 4-Day Cycle Itineraries

Day 1: Explore Hanoi – Transfer to Lao Cai

The task for our first day of the Vietnam bike tour was to explore Hanoi by cyclo through its busy streets and enjoy a hearty meal at a nearby Vietnamese restaurant.

Hanoi bears both an ancient charm and modern appeal, bewitching me right at the first step in this city. Just wandering around some corners ate up my camera film.

After dinner, we boarded a night train for Lao Cai in preparation for our next incredible day of bike tours in Vietnam.

Day 2: Lao Cai – Muong Hoa Valley Biking Tour – Cycling Seo My Ty Water Reservoir: 46km

Full of packages and energy, we headed to the first stop of the Vietnam bike trip – Heaven Gate. The summit took over the Muong Hoa Valley, and it has the highest gradients I’ve ever seen since Vietnam bicycle tours. The view was awesome, though, and made it worthwhile.

After leaving Sapa town, we cycled over the dirt road to the Black Hmong village of Lao Chai and explored this beautiful village.

We crossed Seo My Ty later in the day, had a picnic lunch, and then cycled alongside the lake to the campsite. For the night, we enjoyed a tasty camp stove, dinner, and beds.

Day 3: Cycling Seo My Ty – Thanh Phu – Nam Cang Bike Tour: 46km

After a hearty breakfast, we kicked off the pedals to start another day of Vietnam bike tours. We followed the concrete road to Ta Van village until lunchtime, where we had a feast and continued biking to the Red Dao minority.

We decided to walk here to explore the village’s minority culture. Stilt houses sparsely dotted on the mountain, surrounded by the lush verdant jungles. Children coming back from the field threw us a strange look but still smiled beautifully. So peaceful!

As we arrived back at the parking area, we went down to Nam Cang village. When the sun sank over the jungles and rice paddies, we drank a few markup beers and reminisced about the day together.

Day 4: Nam Cang Cycle Tour – Sin Chai – Suoi Thau Bike Trip to Gia Phu  – Hanoi

We woke to a fresh atmosphere and quickly sipped tea with the host. The scenery was breathtaking, and we started cycling after waiting for the sun to rise. The route took us past numerous rice terraces, rivers, and herds of buffalo before reaching Nam Cang, Nam Sai, and Suoi Thau.

After crossing those treacherous roads, we arrived at the finish line and got on the bus to Hanoi. Our Sapa bike Vietnam tours were over.

Taking the Sapa cycling tour was a great chance to discover the imposing beauty of northwestern Vietnam by bike. Cycling downhill with the wind blowing your hair, hiking through the mud-covered rice terraces, or traveling from place to place while learning about the culture, what could be better?
